The Best Blogging Courses for New Bloggers
I’m really excited today because I’m going to be talking about one of my favorite bloggers! Suzi is one of the first bloggers that I found in my niche.
She makes the best blogging courses && I’d be totally starstruck if I met her in person (#goals).
Are you wondering what the right blogging course might be? Out of all the blogging courses I have taken – this is it!
Suzi has taught me alot about blogging. I’m sharing the 8 most critical blogging tips for new bloggers.
Just in case you don’t know – Suzi blogs over at Startamomblog.com. Her mission is to help other Mamma’s start their own blogs & make money for their families.
In her first year she made over 50,000 dollars, now she’s making good money per month!
I look up to her & hope to be nearly as successful as she is one day. Let’s get into the tips from her courses!

Blogging tips for new bloggers
What you will learn about from Suzi…
I actually purchased a theme and I wasn’t loving it. When I started watching Blog by Number, Suzi introduced me to the Astra theme.
I stopped using the paid theme & started using this free theme!
All I need is a clean & simple theme. I like a white background, with easy to read text and a little bit of pastel colors. This was easy with Astra.
Install the Astra Theme
- Login to your WordPress Dashboard.
- Go to Appearance > Themes > Add New.
- Search for – Astra.
- Install Astra.
- Activate it.
Next – you’ll want to check out their “Starter Templates”. I like the custom printing template. It’s plain and simple, so I started with it.
There are plenty of other templates you could start with & they are completely customizable. You can delete sections or add sections. It’s up to you.
In blog by Number; Suzi walks you through the entire process.
Make sure Elementor is installed on your blog. It’s a WordPress plugin & it might already be installed.
Use Elementor for your pages. You can upgrade, or just use the free version. I have not upgraded.
You can see from above that my home page is made with Elementor. When I click the button “edit with Elementor” you go straight to the editing page.
Quick Elementor Tips
There are free widgets & paid widgets. These are just the basic free widgets there are so many more for free.
Also – if you have a plugin that comes with a widget you can use those in Elementor too.
Elementor makes it super easy for you because they have some page templates that you can start using right away! You can delete parts of it; or add some to it.
They are fully customizable.
You can also add premade blocks! Some of them are only for Pro users; but there are plenty for free too! I usually use them for ideas and then build around them.
Mailchimp isn’t bad.
It’s just not good. It’s super clunky & the emails don’t look very professional.
I switched to Convertkit; but kept hearing about Mailerlite – so I went ahead and tried them too. Mostly because they offered more free subscribers before having to pay.
Luckily Convertkit upped their game – and now offer 1000 free subscribers!
This doesn’t take too long; and I was approved within the same day; but if you have terrible patience (like me) it’s a huge turn off. I’ve heard some bloggers get denied too.
They both offer the same 1000 free subscribers. Which is awesome!
When I started, Convertkit only offered 500; but I emailed them when they added the additional 500 and they upgraded me within the hour.
Their customer service is awesome.
Mailerlite does offer more with their free version. You can set up automations and do a lot more. I also prefer Mailerlites landing pages. The overall user experience is better with Mailerlite.
However, Convertkit wins in overall email experience. The emails simply look better and more authentic.
Already using Mailerlite, Mailchimp, or another service? You can easily switch over and start using Convertkit.
Suzi’s Blog by Number course covers Pinterest too (and Facebook!).
Set up your profile and Boards
Suzi showed me how to set up my profile and my boards on Pinterest. She also discusses her personal Pinterest strategy and how it has helped her get a ton of traffic to her blog.
I explain more about Pinterest & what I’ve learned in my How to get Traffic using Pinterest article.
I learned how and what to write in an email from Suzi. I purchased her Email Bundle Ebook. She shares every single email she wrote in her first year of blogging.
It’s a treasure chest of information.
I had no idea what to write & while I don’t copy her emails – it’s nice to see what an email should and could look like.
You will want to grow your email list from the day one.
How to write an Ebook & Sell it
Because of Suzi, I quickly realized that I wanted to do more with my blog. A new door (or many doors) opened after taking her course. I knew that I wanted to write an Ebook.
I purchased her Ebook by Number course & have already started writing! I’ll be taking my time with the process; but it’s happening!
Did you know that you could set up a clickable Table of Contents in Word for your Ebook? I sure didn’t – Now I do. Thanks Suzi!
How to make an income blogging
In blog by Number, Suzi goes into detail with different ways you can make money blogging.
Ads, Affiliate Marketing, & Your own Products
Ad Revenue is probably the first one most of us think about when starting our blogs. We all want to get approved by adsense and start making money there.
The truth is that you don’t make much money with Adsense.
& I just read that adsense denies about 95% of websites. So if you got in – that’s great.
Adsense denied my blog because I blog about blogging.
Affiliate Marketing is when you sell other people’s products. This is where many bloggers make their money.
It takes hard work and quality articles. You don’t need a ton of traffic – but you need to be able to make connections.
People buy from someone they trust. So be Trustworthy.
Selling your own Products
This is the big money ticket. Every blogger should want to create products eventually. Start with free products to make some relationships.
Create products that solve problems.
How to use pinterest for Keysearch
The first time I heard about using Pinterest for Keysearch was from Suzi. Her course is video based, so I watched her go into Pinterest and find keywords.
It was a huge eye opener for me.
I explain how to do this in my Pinterest for Traffic article.
